SEJ Board Elections

Tom Henry
Active Board Candidate

With next year’s conference in Flint having a Great Lakes theme, I’m in a position to help a lot with conference planning, identifying sources, working out logistics and making connections with potential fundraisers. I’ve covered the Great Lakes longer than any other active journalist.

I’m running for SEJ’s board of directors because I want to be part of SEJ’s leadership as the group continues to transition with changes in the industry.

I have served SEJ well since joining the group in 1994. I have been an organizer, speaker or moderator of panels and tours ranging from bioterrorism to nuclear power to water quality. Many of you know me as SEJournal’s book editor, a volunteer job I’ve had since April 2011. I’ve been a judge in our awards contest for years, the last four as chairman of the book category.

I am a member of Central Michigan University’s Journalism Hall of Fame. My many awards include the highest one for career public outreach from the Great Lakes region’s preeminent group of scientists, the International Association for Great Lakes Research.

I have contributed a lot to SEJ, but am eager to do more. I really enjoy serving and bringing new members to our group. I’d appreciate your vote and would be honored to be on the board of directors.
